Five Photos. A Few Words.

Drawing
I tagged my wife in this picture on Facebook. Thought it would be funny. A day later, dozens of her friends Liked it, many also commenting on how absolutely beautiful my drawing was. Someone suggested commissioning me to draw their family portrait. Well, they better be ready for some expensive stick figures... (FYI, the name of the app is My Sketch.)

My boy
I used this picture recently for a post about feeling like I'm failing my boy. The picture itself doesn't have much to do with the writing, but I think it shows my boy as an individual, which is something I must remember and remind myself of constantly. I have to see his struggles from his own perspective if I want to understand what he's going through.

Mini Me
It's crazy how much he looks like I did when I was his age. Same smile--we have the same mouth. Same a lot of things, actually. Poor guy.

Propaganda
I love this picture of my daughter. Makes her look like a propaganda poster.

  1. You shouldn't have said the name of that app! You would have had a lucrative business! I also loved the propaganda poster pic.

    1. I know... It's OK, because I have other apps. I can put a picture of myself with hair, and people will think I have a magic potion. Anything is possible if you have an iPhone and a Facebook account.

  2. Do you have an app that makes me look ten years younger? I'll pay double for one that gets me 20.

I love this post!! Cracked up at the part about little girl looking like a propaganda poster. In one of my design classes in college, I made a propaganda poster of Mussolini selling Colgate toothpaste. I've got a soft spot for that genre.

    1. I don't know what that girl is selling, but I'm buying, whether it's a revolution or a new toothpaste.

  3. Nothing like some good photo manipulation.

I hear what you're saying about trying to get in the head of your kid. It can be too easy to just think "they need to get in line, follow directions, do what I tell them," without really understanding what their needs and motivations are. I'm working on it, little bit by bit.

    Love that last photo, too.

Thanks for checking out my blog!
    Cheers

  4. You should have photo-shopped a sicle above her head for the full effect. Great pics. And, as a fellow stick figure artist, I am going to have to check out that app!

    1. It was free when I got it, but like many less-known apps, prices go up and down all the time. It's now $2, which is like $1M in app-prices.

  5. You need like a mushroom cloud behind the last picture.

    1. Don't forget all the weeds I had to grow for years just to create the perfect image of gardening incompetence.

  7. I have something like that on my phone, but it's more sketchy. Lovely pictures of your children. As you are aware of your children as individuals and try to see things from their perspective I don't think you'll go too far wrong. The trick is to be consistent.

    1. Thank you. I get distracted. There's a lot of stuff that pulls my attention from my kids too easily. I just have to train myself--to remind myself that being there when they need me is the most important thing I'll ever do.
