A while ago I got an email directing me to this short StoryCorps audio of a young woman interviewing her father. I linked to the original site a while back on my Facebook page, saying I might write a longer post about it one day. Well, that one day is here, but I don't have much to add...
I was weary and anxious when I found out we were about to become parents, but in all honesty, it wasn't THAT real with either child during the pregnancies. After all, I wasn't the one with the hormone-altering parasite inside me. But when the baby came out and the smiling nurse said, "You can hold him now," well... that's when Fear kicked in.
I hope you enjoy this short audio as much as I have.

Thanks for sharing this great story. Without question, pending fatherhood can be a traumatizing experience. Most of us get through it and manage to thrive. But it is an enduring challenge as much as a reward. Not for the feint of heart. Happy Father's Day!
ReplyDeleteI wrote my own reflections over at CuteMonster.com:

Im atheist but I think when I get really old in the 80's I wont be scared of death or anything fictional like the bible. I would be just wanting it to end. At that age I cant see how anyone would care where they go after death.

ReplyDeleteThis was a terrific listen. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBeing a father is a big deal. Everybody should take it seriously. Sadly there are many people who think parenthood is easy.
ReplyDeleteThat was touching. I enjoyed listening to your interview. I feel like I want to hug my dad now. :)
