A Parenting Metaphor

I have to say that most of the time, staying at home with two kids is probably not as difficult as I had feared it would be. Sure, there are moments when the girl is crying while I'm defrosting her milk, and the boy is crying because he fell down the stairs, and one dog is staring at me while peeing on the floor, while the other stands in my way because God forbid I go one day without stepping on her toes.

Some days are easy. Everything goes according to plan, and we're all happy when Mommy comes home.

And some days are full of these moments. As soon as I take care of one problem, another comes up. Or to illustrate my point:

  1. Cats? Really?

It's like I don't even know you anymore.

  2. HAHA! It's like Sisyphus! That's parenting for ya :-)

  3. SciFi Dad, it was too good to just let go! I had to do SOMETHING with it!

Keith, I just hope that when they grow up they'll remember how hard their mother/father worked to get them up there. They'll probably just remember they didn't get ice cream that night...

  5. As a mother i know. But those moments are gifted by god. Even though we suffer, but we pleased. nice article

  6. What an awesome visual. We're potty training now, so if the kittens peed/pooped on the slide as well, that'll pretty much be the perfect metaphor for me.

  7. Gopopgo, actually today I heard a story about a 3yo who took his clothes off and went on a slide, but because he was naked, he couldn't slide well. So he went back up, peed on the slide, and then went down. His problem-solving ability made his father proud.

  8. Love the metaphor!! Too Funny, too cute, and unsettlingly accurate!

  9. Hi, I am amused with the video posted. I think the mother cat is very irritated with the sliding kittens. They are naughty but funny! Just like people, right?

  10. I love kindergarten. That way I can give my kids attention when I get home from work.

    Loved the video.

  11. The video is funny. And the kittens are very cute (even that they are naughty). Hmmm, Perhaps, the cat herself is like that also when she was still a kitten that is why, her little acted like that!

  12. Being with your kids may sometimes be tiring but what makes it special is that you want to protect them and give what they want. At the end of the day, the fulfillment of doing what you have to do is amazing.

  13. Awe-inspiring video. It shows that, a responsible parent always keep their children protected and secured. They always teach their children, to accept what is good, reject what is wrong, and know the difference. They should make sure that their children eat the proper foods, dress appropriately, and are in bed at a reasonable time...Great share! Thanks for letting me realized it.

  14. Talking about parenting i may say that being stressed and tired is part of it but, despite of this two at the end you may say that you have done what a good parent must do.

  15. Parenting is the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood. Also, parenting refers to the activity of raising a child rather than the biological relationship. As a father of two, I may say that parenting these days is a task in many ways because of the overwhelmingly advanced mind sets and ideas that the new generation child portrays

  17. Taking good care for kids is an unending quest. Once you solve your first problem then here comes the other, but the good thing is they make us happy and find fulfillment in our lives. Like the cat we don't want them to get hurt.

  18. The cats are really adorable. I can imagine what you're going through. It's similar with those movies with hunky dads who wear aprons. LOL

  19. Cute video and wonderful description of yours really adds more value.I can imagine your situation. It's difficult but pleasureful.

  20. Wow! The video looks amazing! It is a picture of true parenthood (even they are cat) in which you can see that the mother really cares and loves her child (kitten in that matter). In life, our parents are there to help us in time of problems and ready to guide us. Thank you for this post, I really appreciate this one. Great illustration of yours.

  21. Unbelievably funny, and all too true sometimes.

  22. Can't help but laugh at this very cute video. I love pets! I prefer to have puppies but I also love cats. This video perfectly shows how hard it is for a father to deal with the kids without mom! Fathers are usually the breadwinners and the ones who support the family financially but only the expert mothers can organize the home in such a way that no other family member can. ^.^

  23. I am still laughing, it lookes like a normal day.

  24. Having a kids not easy, you have to be patient and a model to them, so that those kids will know how to value others and be considerate towards others. The best thing that a parent could do to their children is to let them know that you love them and show them how proud you are to be their parent.

  25. Being a parent is one of the most satisfying experiences a person can have. There is a natural instinct that seems to come to a new parent, but there are bits of advice that can help when you are challenged in the growing up years. The most important thing however, that any parent can give their child, is a sense of being loved and the most important thing that any parent can remember is that they don't have to be unfailing to be a perfect parent. Nice sharing here! Keep posting:)

  26. I'm not a parent yet but I know how hard it is to bring up a child. The responsibility is just too much for some that they neglect their children but for most parents, who I really look up to, they take good care of their precious children. As parents, we need to provide the best for our children. Not only the material things but more importantly, we need to give them our love, care, respect, and time.

  27. Being a parent is a big responsibility because you will play a big role raising a child. I know that it is not easy but very fulfilling.Parents who personally take good care of their children are admirable.

  28. LOL. That video is fun. Well, talking about parenting, its not really an easy task. Someone has to have a lot of patience and understanding in order to be an effective parents. Especially those that are left a home to take good care of the children and the house as well. What more for a man, so I admire you for that.

  29. The video really illustrates the real scenario of parenting. Upon viewing it, its nice to realize that our parents are really patient in dealing us most likely when we were babies, toddlers who were fond of playing the whole day. Maybe parenting is a hard task but if someone is very much well-prepared, it could be an enjoying task coupled with a lot of responsibilities.

  30. The video is funny but I agree with you that it illustrates what parenting is all about. I'm not a mom yet but I saw and experienced it all with my mom. How she do things at the same time and I assure you, it's not that easy! I salute to all parents!

  31. Being a parent is both fulfilling and challenging at the same time. When your kids are still small, I can still say that it is quite easy but when those cute monsters started to grow up and became teens that is where your problems starts. But still, like I said it is fulfilling.

  32. Funny but touchy and inspiring video. Yeah, daddys would always find it challenging staying at home with little kids and without momma around. Though its challenging on their part , its also fullfiling. But if you're a lovely father, you'll greatly enjoy every moment of it.

  33. It is a very funny video.I love the animals especially cats.

  34. Oh very funny! That's also life in a preschool classroom some days. Yesterday we had three accidental or fake-testing-the-system fire drills. You'd think it would be old hat by the third one in a day, wouldn't you? That comes right as you're giving them a talking to about how to calmly and quietly walk down the halls? But no, apparently not.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I also noticed, there are a LOT of lawyers and business names as commenters. How come the Houston one can't spell? Is it because of our testing policies? We probably need more standardized tests.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jill, Texans think spelling is a Ponzi scheme.

  37. Funny GIF! I agree to most readers here. Parenting is a never ending quest. You always have to be there to support and guide your kids even if they are old enough to make their own decisions.

  38. Just hilarious, and so true. Thanks for sharing. Wanted to pass along my own recent parenting metaphors, with lessons we can gleam from angry birds. http://www.ordinaryparent.com/lessons-learned/angry-bird-parenting/
