Reading his About page, I realize I have a lot in common with Chris. Both of us are stay at home dads, both of us have a B.A. in Literature, both of us like The Wire, and both of us would eat Nutella off the floor. In case of emergency.
And both of us write about other blogging fathers. Sure, I didn't accept it at first. Older and wiser men have said, "There can be only one." And if I've learned anything in life, it's Always Listen to Sean Connery.
And yet...
When I started this blog, I didn't know there were so many blogging fathers out there. Now, sure, there are more blogging mothers, but the fathers I've met online are really supportive of each other and really eager to create a friendly virtual environment. And when I write Supportive, I don't mean to imply stay at home dads are suffering, but that what we're doing is so new that we love to connect with others and see just how much we have in common. And I haven't met anyone more committed to finding and maintaining the virtual connections between fathers than Chris.
So we actually have a lot in common, including our love of The Wire and Nutella, and our search for other blogging fathers, but it's much more than that. Both of us know that our new roles as stay at home dads do not mean the end of social life, but a new beginning, pardon the cliche.
Which means that, unfortunately, I'm going to have to disobey Sean Connery.

Hey, such a surprise to see this today and really made my day. Thanks for the kind words and support! I grabbed your button and put it in my sidebar as well.
ReplyDeleteCool to see how much we have in common as well and I love that quote from Highlander - one of my favorite movies ever!
Thanks again :)
One of my favourites too. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for dads who are willing to be capital D Dads. One of the things I love about my guy is how much he's looking forward to being one.
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about movies. Or quotes from movies (because I never stay awake through them), but that is one cute baby!
ReplyDeleteChris, cool. Glad you liked it. (And thanks for putting up the button! By the way, if you want, you can copy the code from the bottom of this post, which links to the post rather than to the home page.)
ReplyDeleteBetterbabybox, good luck to you and to your guy. It's fun, most of the time.
Jill, No! Seriously? No Highlander? No Queen singing "Who wants to live forever"? No Belgian/Scottish accent? No Sean Connery's flying head? No soul-crushing disappointment when the sequel came out? Well, considering that last one, maybe it's for the best...
I got the Highlander reference. Glad you guys can co-exist...though a fight scene might garner some hits. ;)
ReplyDeleteNot a big fan of Nutella, but am a fan of Chris and of course you.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! And all the while I thought it was just you. Hail the father bloggers! It's really cool that I'm discovering there's more. But hey, you're still the pioneer in my heart. :)
ReplyDeleteChris is a terrific father that I have been lucky enough to come across. He has a great passion for fatherhood. When I started out as a stay at home dad I thought I was on an island. Thanks to you, Chris and other dad's out there I have found a community and it's great to see I'm not on a island at all.
ReplyDeleteBetterbabybox, never say never!
ReplyDeleteDC Urban Dad, thanks! Even if I don't understand how your taste buds work.
Printing, cool. I'm glad to know you're finding other fathers here. Thanks!
EdathomeDad, I know what you mean. It's like one day you realize the internet is about more than naked ladies and funny gifs. There's actually helpful stuff here that connects people. And a few naked ladies.
The child is so cute here. A one proud dad will always be happy.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the beauty of the internet? I mean the connection of being able to find other people who do the exact same thing as you...
ReplyDeleteAnd...of course being able to decide if there truly can "only be one."
Highlander = Great Movie.
Ha ha I love the Highlander reference. Great post I love blogger positive energy.
ReplyDeleteNice review of a good blog. And who doesn't love The Wire. It's a shame my daughter is too young to watch the show. Maybe when she's five.
ReplyDeleteDistracted Daddy, we were getting used to watching TV with our infant just lying there on the bed, minding his own business, until one day we were watching Dexter--the episode where he was a baby, sitting in a pool of blood--and realized it was time to move to Nick Jr.
ReplyDeleteBut I know what you mean. I killed a lot of zombies on Resident Evil before the boy was born, but there are many more out there, who are NOT going to kill themselves. I guess I'll have to wait until my boy is 5...
Just wonderful and empowering to know that there are so many positive daddies out there. Hope for the future just got a little bit bigger!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteChris is a good guy.
