35. Ed

While some dad blogs are a little obscure (for now), others, like Zoë's Dad, are familiar to every father or father-to-be who's ever looked at a blog. I'm not sure what it is that makes this one stand out, but my guess is that it's the ease with which Ed lets us into his world. You don't have to let your readers know everything about your life, but when you do say something, you need to be honest about it.

Despite the name of the blog, there's more than parenting here. I always like to look at blogs and search for answers to my own questions, one of which is about the way my self-identity has changed when the baby was born (and the way it will change again when the next child comes along, soon enough). I wonder if when Ed named his blog he saw himself almost exclusively as a father, but with time he felt the (subconscious?) need to see himself more fully as an individual. Or as he describes himself in his I Am section:

Just a dude trying to figure it out.

And that's all we need to know, because that's all anyone knows about himself, really. And the rest is just theories.

Wow, I'm flattered. Thanks.

Cute site. What with Dads in general getting treated in the media these days like a diaper gets treated by a baby, this one's refreshing. Zoe looks about the same age as my little pumpkin, 8.

Ed is a great blogger. Good pick.

You know, I'm quite a big fan of theories. Reality is a little too daunting, so I like to stick with abstract mental contemplation.

Ed, thanks. Glad you liked it. That's a great photo I stole from you.

Fredd, as bad as fathers are treated, something tells me a single father wouldn't have been thrown out of that South-West flight. But who knows...

Dan, there's an immediacy there, you know? As soon as you get there you know where you are.

Sebastien, AMC is my middle name!
