Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying myself so far on Twitter. There's something about the immediacy of content that appeals to me and seems suited for this time, or at least it fits with the way we see ourselves. Humanity needs content! Now! And one paragraph is more than enough, thank you.
I'm contradicting myself so let me try to be a bit clearer. As much as I enjoy reading one-liners, and I do, I still see it as a supplement to blogs and not as an alternative. 140 characters or less can't compete with the true emotions we feel when we write or read blog posts.
Which is just an introduction to Bill and Jill's blog: Bill and Jill. Everything about this blog is proof of the magic of blogs. From the design, with the typewriter on the top (because this is about real writing--this is not a blog your family reads to stay updated on the grandchildren), to the evocative writing and the magical pictures, this is a blog you take seriously. You make a cup of coffee and close the door and read this one. You read this blog and you remember that blogging is more than content, and it's more than marketing, and it's more than a daddy/mommy blogger niche. It's about the way we feel when we find something that moves us. It's too rare, but on this blog it's everywhere.

So true! 140 characters is hardly enough to express depth of feeling and real content. I use my twitter account as another avenue to direct people to my blog. I just can't seem to compact the things I want to say into so few characters; I need a link to something more fulfilling. By the way, that's an excellent picture there of the kid and the bucket.
ReplyDeleteKeith, they have some amazing photos there, and it wasn't easy to choose. And I'm still finding my way around Twitter, with all the applications. Maybe I'll add other fathers' tweets to the site to integrate the whole thing better... We'll see. It's fun to learn new things.
ReplyDeleteYa I agree blogging is more than creating niches, marketing and etc but it is how we feel. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
